Whole-Body MR/PET Hybrid Imaging: Technical Considerations, Clinical Workfl ow, and Initial Results
نویسنده
چکیده
These days we are eyewitnesses to an exciting new hybrid imaging modality to enter the clinical arena, namely simultaneous whole-body MR/PET imaging. Envisioning the combination of the excellent soft tissue contrast, high spatial and temporal resolution, and functional tissue parameters that MR provides with the high sensitivity of PET, different technical approaches have been pursued by researchers and by the industry to work on the integration of two formerly ‘non-integrable’ imaging modalities. With the recent introduction of the Biograph mMR, Siemens has launched a 3.0 Tesla whole-body MR hybrid system that hosts in its isocenter a fully integrated PET detector and that with its 60 cm patient bore enables whole-body simultaneous MR/PET imaging. Researchers, radiologists, and nuclear medicine physicians have been waiting and actively been working on the advent of this hybrid imaging modality for a long time [1–3]. Recent Advances in PET-MR Hybrid contrast agent
Introduction: All of the Imaging modalities have advantages and disadvantages alone. So if we want to have the best and perfect image, combining these modalities produces something we desired. PET-MR images consist of morphologic and metabolic data. MRI and PET provide high spatial and contrast resolution and high sensitivity and molecular information respectively. Hybrid PET-...
متن کاملTechnical Challenges & Opportunities of PET/MR: An Overview
Following PET/CT, PET/MR is the newest diagnostic whole-body hybrid imaging modality. Simultaneous PET and MR data acquisition requires novel technical solutions and offers new diagnostic opportunities. Attenuation correction (AC) and motion correction (MC) of PET data are current hot topics in PET/MR hybrid imaging research. The added diagnostic value of PET/MR in whole-body imaging is current...
متن کاملIntegrated Whole Body MR/PET: Where Are We?
Whole body integrated magnetic resonance imaging (MR)/positron emission tomography (PET) imaging systems have recently become available for clinical use and are currently being used to explore whether the combined anatomic and functional capabilities of MR imaging and the metabolic information of PET provide new insight into disease phenotypes and biology, and provide a better assessment of onc...
متن کاملWhole-body hybrid imaging concept for the integration of PET/MR into radiation therapy treatment planning.
Modern radiation therapy (RT) treatment planning is based on multimodality imaging. With the recent availability of whole-body PET/MR hybrid imaging new opportunities arise to improve target volume delineation in RT treatment planning. This, however, requires dedicated RT equipment for reproducible patient positioning on the PET/MR system, which has to be compatible with MR and PET imaging. A p...
متن کاملImplementation and performance evaluation of simultaneous PET/MR whole-body imaging with continuous table motion.
UNLABELLED In current PET/MR systems, the data acquisition paradigm is based on a multistation examination, imaging the patient from hip to head. This strategy has potential limitations, especially in terms of workflow and PET acquisition efficiency. In this work, the technical implementation of simultaneous PET and MR data acquisition with continuous table motion (CTM) is presented. PET and MR...
